Octave of St John the Baptist
The BCP uses the Octave of St John the Baptist as a period of time of national prayer, the eight days being the period between the anniversary of the landing of John Cabot in Newfoundland in 1497 and Dominion Day. As such it is not used as an octave of the Baptist. If it is desired to observe the octave of the Baptist in a traditional manner, then the proper on p. 278 would be used and the Gloria added at Holy Communion.
