The Fifth Sunday in Lent commonly called Passion Sunday (Violet or Red)
Passiontide

Passiontide

It is customary in some places to veil images, statues, crosses, and crucifixes with violet veils during Passiontide. This should be done on the Eve of Lent V.

Colour Note: Some places use the traditional colour of passiontide red during the last two weeks of Lent. Passiontide Red is a deep, dark shade of red which is more crimson than the scarlet used for Whitsun.

Gloria Patri: The BCP instructs that, at the Eucharist, the Gloria Patri is ommitted following the psalm in Passiontide (see p. xlix). For the offices, it is traditional to omit the Gloria Patri from the canticles and preces (but not the psalms) during this season.

Morning Prayer: Invit 5; Ps 77; Ex 2:23—3:20; Mk 10:32-45; Coll 148 & 138

Holy Eucharist: Propers 148 & Coll 138; Int 43; Tract 143:1-10; Preface of Passion Sunday; no Gloria

Evening Prayer: Ps 73; Ex 4:27—6:1; Lk 23:26-49; Coll 148 & 138
