The Epiphany of Our Lord or the Manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles - HD, with commemoration of his Baptism in the Octave (White or Gold)
Epiphanytide
The collect for the Epiphany, 117, is repeated during the eight days of the octave. Proper 119, for the Baptism of the Lord, and proper 121, for the Missionary Work of the Church Overseas, may also be used during the weekdays in the octave.Epiphany Cré Che: The Shepherds and animals are removed from the cré Che and replaced with the Wise Men (Magi) and their camels before the start of the service or, if appropriate, as part of a short children’s time at the beginning of the service itself. Common Worship: Times and Seasons provides “Acclamations at the Presentation of the Gifts” on p. 163 which are appropriate for use.
Epiphany House Blessings: Traditionally, chalk is blessed at this service to be used to bless homes by chalking a blessing above the main door of worshippers’ homes. If this custom is used it is suggested that multi-coloured chalk and a “do it yourself” blessing leaflet be provided to worshipers. The Cathedral of the Diocese of Montreal provides such a leaflet in French and English on their blog (posted January 4, 2016).
Office Note: The Collect, Lesson & Gospel may be used on any weekday in the Octave of Epiphany.
