Vocations Sunday
Many provinces of the Anglican Communion, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, other denominations, and the Roman Catholic church keep Good Shepherd Sunday as the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. This has traditionally been a day for intentional prayers for vocations to ordained ministry and the religious life (Canadian Anglican Religious Communities: Society of St John the Evangelist - SSJE [1866]; Community of the Sisters of the Church - CSC [1870]; Order of the Holy Cross - OHC [1884]; Sisterhood of St John the Divine - SSJD [1884]; Oratory of the Good Shepherd - OGS [1913]). However, the day could also be usefully expanded to include lay ministries. It is suggested that the prayers of the people include intercession for all three groups.Good Shepherd Sunday: The Fourth Sunday of Easter is commonly called Good Shepherd Sunday as the reading for the Eucharist focuses on Christ as the Good Shepherd.
