National Indigenous Day of Prayer (Green or other appropriate colour)

NATIONAL INDIGENOUS DAY OF PRAYER

In 2010 the General Synod added this day which ranks as a Feast with Precedence over a Sunday. Liturgical resources, including the Propers, may be found on the website of the Anglican Church of Canada.

Colour Note: There is no colour designated for the National Indigenous Day of Prayer. This may be intentional as the colours of the medicine wheel may be appropriate using the principles of inculturation. The colours are often red, gold, black, and white, but there are several interpretations of the colours of the medicine wheel. If used by Indigenous communities, it should be adapted to your local area.

However, this editor does not feel comfortable inferring intent as to why no colour is suggested or recommending using these colours due to issues of cultural appropriation. It is also possible that the colour may reflect the nature of the Feast: violet for repentance and prayer or white for hope and thanksgiving. The colour of ordinary time, green, in which this day occurs has been indicated. In this one instance in the Ordo, there has been no attempt to give a liturgical direction.

Morning Prayer: Ps 119:97-120; 1 Sam 2:12-26; Acts 2:1-21; Coll above

Collect of the Day: Creator God, from you every family in heaven and earth takes its name. You have rooted and grounded us in your covenant love, and empowered us by your Spirit to speak the truth in love, and to walk in your way towards justice and wholeness. Mercifully grant that your people, journeying together in partnership, may be strengthened and guided to help one another to grow into the full stature of Christ, who is our light and our life. Amen.

Prayer over the Gifts: Creator, you bless us with many good gifts returned to you from your creation. Feed us with the Bread of Life, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer after Communion: Great Creator, you have fed us with bread from heaven. Continue to renew us in your truth, to give light to our minds strength to our bodies, and seal us with your Holy Spirit. We ask this in Christ's name. Amen.

Sentence: The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. Psalm 19:1
