In some places, candles to be used in the church during the coming year are blessed at the beginning of the liturgy; some of them are distributed to the people and then lit, and a procession made into the church. Hence the old name for the day:"Candlemas." If it was not removed earlier, the Christmas cr?¿che is taken away after the last liturgy today.
